How to zoom in on a screen recording after recording

Recorded something and the text is too small to read? You can add zooms afterwards. They follow your cursor, so viewers always see what you were pointing at.

The one-click way: Smart Edit

  1. Open the recording in the editor.

Click the Zoomr icon and press Editor, then select the clip on the storyboard.

  2. Choose a strength.

In the Edit tab, pick Subtle, Balanced or Punchy.

  3. Press ✨ Apply Smart Edit.

Zoomr zooms in on clusters of clicks and typing, cuts long pauses and speeds up waiting, but never cuts while you're talking.

  4. Check the timeline.

Each smart zoom appears on the Zoom row. Drag it to move it, or drag its edges to change when it starts and ends.

The manual way: zoom zones

  1. Move the playhead

to where the zoom should start.

  2. Press + Add Zoom

in the Edit tab. A zoom that follows your cursor is added.

  3. Set the depth

with the slider (higher = closer).

  4. Adjust timing

by dragging the block on the Zoom row.

For screenshots

Screenshots work too: drag a box on the preview over the area you want to magnify. Zoomr animates into it when you export, turning a still into a short video.

Why the zoom follows the cursor

Zoomr records where your cursor and text caret were during the recording. A zoom zone uses that path, smoothed out, so the zoom glides with your actions instead of jumping. That's also why zooms work best on recordings made with Zoomr: imported videos don't have that information.

Free plan: 3 smart zooms and 3 zoom zones per clip. Pro: unlimited.

Frequently asked questions

Can I undo Smart Edit?

Yes. Press Undo Smart Edit to remove everything it added, or click individual cuts on the timeline to restore them.

Why didn't Smart Edit add any zooms?

Smart Edit zooms where you clicked or typed. If the recording has very little interaction, add zooms manually with + Add Zoom.
