How to blur sensitive information in a screen recording

The safest blur is the one applied before anything is captured. Zoomr blurs private information on the page itself, so it never reaches the video file. Then you can hide anything it missed in the editor.

1. Automatic blur (on by default)

Zoomr's Privacy blur looks for private data on the page while you record or take a screenshot:

Turn categories on or off in Settings → Privacy blur, or switch it all off with 🛡 Privacy in the popup.

2. Blur anything by hand while recording

Hold Alt (Option on a Mac) and click any part of the page, such as a customer name, a chart or a sidebar. It's blurred immediately; Alt+click again to unblur.

3. Blur areas in the editor

  1. Open the Text tab

    and press + Blur.

  2. Drag the box

over what you want to hide; resize with its corner.

  3. Choose Pixelate

(default; text can't be read back), Blur or Solid box.

  4. Set the timing

with Start/End, drag it on the timeline, or press Whole clip.

Blur areas switch on and off without a fade, so not a single frame leaks.

Light blur can sometimes be reversed to read text. Pixelate (big blocks) or Solid box can't. Use them for passwords and numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blur apply to screenshots?

Yes. Privacy blur works for screenshots too, and editor blur areas apply to guide images.

Can Zoomr blur text in Google Sheets or Figma?

Those apps draw on a canvas, which Zoomr can't read. Use Alt+click on the area, or a blur area in the editor.
