How to create an SOP from a screen recording

A standard operating procedure (SOP) is only useful if it's accurate and easy to follow. Writing one by hand takes hours of screenshots. Recording the procedure once and generating the steps takes minutes.

  1. Do the procedure for real

while recording with Zoomr, in a test or demo account if it touches customer data.

  2. Open the Guide tab

    in the editor.

  3. Rename it

to the procedure's name ("How to issue a refund in Stripe").

  4. Add an introduction:

who this is for, when to use it, and anything to check before starting.

  5. Tighten the steps.

Merge trivial clicks, delete detours, and add text-only steps for decisions ("If the customer paid by bank transfer, skip to step 6").

  6. Export to your knowledge base:

Markdown for Notion/Confluence/GitHub, HTML for an intranet page, PDF for printing or audits.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the screenshots?

You can choose full screen or zoomed-in images, and blur areas you add in the editor are applied. To change what's on screen, record that step again.
