How to record a sharp, high-quality screen recording

Blurry text is the number-one complaint about screen recordings. It's nearly always fixable before you press Record.

  1. Raise the bitrate.

Settings → Recording quality: 8–12 Mbps for most laptops, 16–32 Mbps for strong computers or Retina screens, up to 80 Mbps for very large screens.

  2. Choose 60 fps

for scrolling and animations (Settings → Capture smoothness).

  3. Size the window sensibly.

A 1280–1600 px wide browser window gives readable text; a huge 4K window makes text tiny when viewed on phones.

  4. Zoom the page, not the video.

Use Chrome's zoom (Ctrl++) to make text bigger before recording.

  5. Use live zoom or Smart Edit

    for details.

Export MP4 at 60 fps, upload the original file (not a re-compressed copy), and pick the HD option when sharing.
