How to record a screen recording with voice-over

A voice-over turns a silent click-through into an explanation. The trick is recording your voice cleanly and editing the video without chopping up what you say.

Recording

  1. Pick your microphone

in Zoomr Settings → Microphone & camera. A headset or USB mic beats a laptop mic.

  2. Turn on 🎙 Mic

in the popup and say a test sentence. The meter should move into the yellow, not stay at the left.

  3. Plan three points

you want to say. Don't write a script word for word; it sounds read out.

  4. Record

with Ctrl+Shift+E (on a Mac, ⌘+Shift+E). Talk while you click. Pauses are fine: Smart Edit removes dead time but keeps speech.

  5. Mute

for a cough or a long silent step with Alt+Shift+S. Recording continues, silently.

Frequently asked questions

Can I record the voice-over after the video?

Not yet. Zoomr records your voice together with the screen. Re-recording a section means recording that part again as a new clip.

Will my voice be uploaded for captions?

No. Captions run locally with the Whisper speech model. Only the model itself is downloaded once.
